Calling all budding builders and aspiring architects! This week we’re giving away TWO sets of eco-friendly building blocks from Katan Children’s Boutique, worth $60! The winner will get to construct their own empire with both a set of 100 Keva Planks and a set of 30 colorful Building Bricks from Spiel & Holz! Keva Planks offer kids a blank canvas with endless possibilities — they are precision cut to provide incredible structural stability and kids can build anything with these planks, from towers to marble runs! Made in the USA from maple wood, Keva Planks do not have paint or finishes. The set comes with a guide book on making everything from games to amazing structures.

The Building Bricks from Spiel & Holz are each individually sanded by hand and contain no sharp edges or corners. These bricks provide children with an engaging and visceral hands-on experience and allow them to use their imagination to create structures, landscapes or paths. Made from Alder, they are colored with non-toxic color based dyes and come packaged in a net bag.

Katan Children’s Boutique sells sustainably produced toys, art materials and clothing. Educator owned, they look for toys that provide children with open ended experiences to spark the imagination, foster flexible thinking and problem solving skills, and instill a love for discovery. Shop at Katan Children’s Boutique online, or visit their store front located in Mercer Island, WA.

Last night my daughter and I stacked various blocks and toys almost up to her room’s ceiling. She sure does love to stack and build and I love how freely her imagination runs when she is playing with simple toys. These blocks would be treasured toys at our house.

  9. puremodlife says:

oh gosh my kids love blocks & they will find ways to travel around the globe with them. (all pretend of course!)

  10. j.davisharte says:

Oh yes! As an eco-minded design specializing in kids’ spaces – I simply must support my young daughter’s own budding building skills in all-ways green. Maybe I’ll put architectural pictures above her bed, like Frank Lloyd Wright’s mum did – who knows what synapses we’re firing for our beautiful offspring?

  11. sewnnatural says:

Mister Rogers said play is the work of childhood. And, after having watched and helped my little girl for the last 3 years… I wholeheartedly agree. Used to build towers, these blocks would teach her about balance, equilibrium, patience and color. And be a whole lot of fun. Because each is an absolutely gorgeous open-ended toy, however, she could use them in creative play in any number of other ways – as tickets for her baby dolls to attend one of her musical shows, as pretend cookies, as fence posts for her wooden animal toys, as dominoes for a new made-up game, and more. We’d be thrilled to win these! Thank you.

  12. Teri says:

My kid should win these because the kid loves his blocks. He has one set that he loves to stack up and knock down. He loads them into his wagon pulls them around and dumps them out again. The fun never ends!

Oh wow, awesome giveaway! How we’d LOVE to play with these sets! Our green kid is the son of 2 green architects so our whole family will REALLY appreciate these and put them to good creative use! We love that they are so well crafted, spare, and conducive to open-ended play. Such wholesome plastic-free battery-free waldorf and montessorri type creative wood toys are just the type of things we look for! Great find.

  18. Kathleen W. says:

I love how these simple blocks can become anything–a building, borders of a racetrack, or even pretend food like a sandwich. I try to have as many eco-friendly toys in my son’s toy collection, not just because they’re safer (especially for kids like mine who like to taste their toys) but because they help conserve our earth for future generations.

My parents bought my daughter a set of foam blocks for her first birthday. Perhaps not the most green item, but they have been her most frequently used toy for the last three years and I love the open ended play. We’re trying to add variety to her block collections and these would be the perfect addition, especially because her birthday is coming up next week!
Oh, and I signed up for the newsletter.

I don’t have children but I live in an apartment building in manhattan on a floor with several families, who have children, that are extremely wasteful and destructive. I’d love to be able to possibly begin educating them about behaving in an environmentaklly friendly manner by giving them these building blocks, playing with them and teaching them about how we all have to be responsible for doing everything we can to save the planet.

  30. mainegal821 says:

My child will be one soon and these would be a great way to keep showing her an environmentally friendly alternative to other toys..

  31. bitt says:

I would love to give these to my niece. She doesn’t have many toys yet and her parents don’t know a lot about eco-friendly things. I am hoping to educate them and her through our gift choices. So far everything I have gitted her with has been sustainable (either consignment or organic).

  36. windycindy says:

Our children love to build and create things! Legos, Lincoln Logs, etc. These two sets are different
kinds of blocks and I can see my kids trading the plain/colored ones to build things! It is so
marvelous to see all of the eco-conscious toys that are becoming available. Many thanks, Cindi

  48. chloehweeks says:

My daughter is the offspring of an Architect and an Interior Designer. I don’t mind what she chooses as her career, be it a Pediatrist, Opera Singer, Basket Weaver, Computer Technician or whatever! But I do hope she grows up to have an appreciation of nature as well as the built environment around us. My husband and I spend alot of energy in our professional careers to design and build responsibly. We are also trying to raise our daughter in an eco-friendly way and teach her that Earth is precious, and we can, as a society, treat Her responsibly and build beautifully at the same time. What better way to open the doors for these conversations than to play together with her eco-friendly building blocks?! :-)

  49. archidaddy says:

As an architect myself. i would love to share my love and passion for creative thinking, problem solving and encourage imagination for my daughter with these blocks. 53. spiritRejoices says:

My son is only 6 months old now, but I can’t afford to buy many eco-friendly or organic things so I am always looking for every opportunity to invest in his future, and our earth’s! These blocks look so very beautiful and well-made, I know they would last our family through many children (and maybe generations!) proving themselves all the more a fantastic investment for both our family and the earth. I really admire the goal of these companies to produce beautiful as well as educational toys that give children all the materials they need to explore their imaginations and their world! Thank you so much for this opportunity.

  55. Snowflake07 says:

I’d love for my daughter to win so she can get a head start on enjoying toys that require her to use her imagination and creativity! I’m surprised at how many toys for her age group are simply buttons for her to push and listen to a sound. Thank goodness toys like this are still around.

  56. cryan says:

The wee “E” would go nuts with these blocks she loves to stack blocks into high towers and then knock them down. I love that they are also green, we strive to find toys for her to play with that leave as small a step on the environment as possible!

  61. kia says:

My kiddo should win these two sets because we are doing our best to establish a simple, green, enriching experience for when (s)he is born. These sets go along with the aesthetic of items we are already registering for. Two sets will be nice because one set can go to a friend of mine who is also pregnant with her first and shares many eco-conscious and simple values with me and my family.

  62. uschicana says:

I would love these blocks for my son. He is still little but I think he can enjoy them now and as he gets older.

Of course, they love to build things, are creative and love colors, so these sets would be absolutely perfect for them! Thanks for the chance to win!

  65. Terry says:

Our little bean basically needs these two sets. Since we’re not going to get the kid any plastic toys, the only other option is twigs and rocks.

That poor little thing would definitely be better off with some nice, natural blocks.

  66. Sara says:

My children could play with these for hours, building some of the most creative structures imaginable. There is so much more possibility with these than with traditional blocks. These building blocks will last forever and my kids will have fun with them until the day they fight over who gets to take them to their own home.

  67. lace says:

The girls would be able to add to their current collection of blocks and make amazing structures

  68. chrissybelle says:

My oldest son is so creative and loves to build! He is also a great big brother to his younger brothers, so he deserves a fun new set of blocks!

  69. annasmama0702 says:

Great giveaway! My daughter would love to win these blocks because we have playgroups at our house every week with tons of kids. I hate to think of the kids being around tons of toys with nasty chemicals – I try to buy eco-friendly, but it would be great to throw away the set of blocks we have now and replace them with these wonderful, green ones! Thanks for the giveaway!

  70. skipthelaundry says:

My kids love to build, these sets are different so they would make for a learning experience.

  71. imark says:

My son love building and destroying things!

  72. FluffyLIme says:

The first words out of my 2-year-old daughter’s mouth when she wakes in the morning are “Come build house mummy?”…the first words from her mouth when she wakes from her naps: “Come build house mummy”…her first words when I pick her up from day care on Tuesdays: “Build house mummy?”…
She would derive so much pleasure form building with these gorgeous blocks and the castles she would build could be a sight to behold! :)
