Here’s a great indoor outing for New York City families (or those visiting the Big Apple) this holiday season. The new Urban Garden Room at One Bryant Park is a study in what green public spaces of the future might look like. And there’s much more than the towering living plant sculptures (composed of thousands of ferns, mosses, lichens and vines 7 to 25 feet tall) that are green. Cook+Fox (the firm that designed the Bank of America building in which the installation is housed) have already earned a LEED Platinum rating for their efforts.
This new project by Wallace Roberts & Todd (with Margie Ruddick), pays tribute to the building’s ‘greeness’ with what the designers are calling “the first permanent installation of a living sculpture.” So, pack a healthy picnic basket, and after engaging in a bit of ‘free’ ice skating at The Pond (free if you own a pair of skates, $12 to rent), head over to The Urban Garden Room for snacks.
