Illustrator Steven Guarnaccia retells the classic tales of Goldilocks And The Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs in a manner that is awesomely tres chic. In the case of Goldilocks, she arrives to a “50′s style split-level” home furnished with a Charles Rennie Mackintosh ‘Ladderback’ chair, a Danish ‘Egg’ chair and an Eames ‘LCW’ chair among other well-designed pieces belonging to Papa, Mama and Baby Bear respectively (cool cats more than hibernating forest dwellers). As expected, unintentional havoc ensues.
Frank Gehry, Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright are presented as porcine protagonists in Guarnaccia’s adaptation of The Three Little Pigs. The tale naturally features a wolf (possibly a metaphor for constant modernization) that threatens to demolish smartly designed structures (each explained in an extensive glossary in the book’s covers), in order to build anew. About the titles, Steven Heller from PRINT magazine quips, “It’s never too early to introduce children to design (or egotistical designers).”
