The US Social Security Administration announced the most popular baby names of 2010 yesterday and just like last year Jacob and Isabella are the number one boy and girl names. The rest of the list includes classics like Michael, William, Alexander, Emma and Emily, along with trendy new hits like Madison, Chloe, Jayden and Aiden. But what if you don’t want your child to end up in class with three other going by the same name? Are nature-inspired names a unique way to go? Read on to find out and to see the top 100 baby names for 2010.
Lesly Bolton, author of The Complete Book of Baby Names says “Mother Nature has always been a source for inspiration, but with the heightened focus on the well-being of our planet, nature names are hotter than ever.” That said, these names aren’t showing up on the top 100. “Right now, parents favor flower names for their daughters, but are bypassing Lily, Daisy, and Rose for the more colorful Dahlia, Lavender, and Zinnia.,” Bolton says. “And for their sons, parents are looking to the heavens, with trendy names including Leo, Jovian, Orion, and Mars.” Deciding on a baby name is a huge decision, and you shouldn’t necessarily follow the trends, or the current trend of trying to come up with the wackiest most unique name. Any mother that names her baby Aiden or Ethan or any name ending in -en or -an should be sterilized. These names are horrible!
In response to hooplehead—-are you absolutely ignorant? What kind of comment is this? Who made you the ruler of naming a child? A parent has every right to name THEIR child any name they choose! A name has significant meaning and whether it is Samuel, Elizabeth, Tyler, Trinity, Grace, Isabella, Harold, Martin or AIDAN…..You my dear need to get some manners.
