I recently experienced a lesson in love from my 4 year old son. “Love is not just giving someone what they want,” said the little Love Guru. “Love is just when you love somebody.” Of course he said this without realizing that Valentine’s Day was around the corner. As I’m sure today love will mean giving him exactly what he wants… chocolate. Below are 4 ways to give your children what they want without taking too much away from the environment… even if they want loads of chocolate.

1. Grab a couple pounds of organic chocolate from Dagoba and make your own chocolate truffles. “At Dagoba Organic Chocolate we seek to honor Full Circle Sustainability principles: blending attention to Quality, Ecology, Equity and Community into each step from cacao farms to our factory to you.”

2. Add a few hearts to Andrea’s brilliant DIY screen print design and create a unique Valentine’s Day keepsake T-shirt for your little loves.

3. Salvage those old magazines from the recycling bin and make a great collage greeting card that stands apart from store bought varieties.

4. Take a moment to hug the earth. A few minutes of meditation can give a bit of gravity to the green movement. You can even turn this into a weekly (or daily) routine.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
