Want your tot to channel her inner engineer and learn about energy technologies of the future while playing cars? The Hydrocar by Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies features a mini ‘fuel-cell’ car for kids and parents who are looking to up the ante on the green gadget toy options at home. Part science kit, part clean driving machine, eco-friendly play has never sported such power-packed promise.
The Hydrocar is an educational vehicle whose main fuel source is hydrogen. Water is poured into a tiny (polymer electrolyte membrane) fuel cell, which in turn is hooked up to a solar panel. The energy from the solar panel transforms the water into hydrogen and oxygen, which in turn powers the fuel cell of the tiny Hydrocar vehicle. Talk about a great hands-on science lesson!
Though not yet available in stores or online (the official release date is scheduled for early 2009), the Hydrocar by Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies is yet another installment in their great track record of super-cute alternative powered mini-vehicles. (They previously wowed us with the H-racer.) We love the futuristic feel of this design and the great ideas it generates – all without batteries or power-sapping sources. Even cooler? The car steers independently of the user once it hits a barrier, and cool blue LED lights flash from inside the cockpit. What a smart toy car for the sustainable road ahead!
