Mark May Designs Repurposed Robots from Salvaged Materials and Flea Market Finds

by , 09/14/11

Mark May is not an artist by trade. In fact, he’s a special education teacher in an urban school district in Pennsylvania. He started crafting robots for stress relief when he worked as an emotional support teacher in another urban school. Now he continues to make the eco-friendly robots to work off stress.

When crafting the robots, May tries to keep most pieces in tact. So you’ll notice gears, dice, table and chair legs, bottle caps and more on each of the robots.

The robots are part of the Outsider Folk Art Gallery in Reading, Penn., but were also on display in Greenport, New York earlier this summer.
