Recycle Your Baby’s Teeth into Jewelry with ‘Le Knockout’ by Kim Kovel
by Desmond Williams, 01/05/10
“The charms of youth.” The phrase typically conjures up thoughts of butterfly kisses and ice cream dreams — but in the case of jewelry designer Kim Kovel, we’re talking about literal gold charms made from the fallen out baby teeth your little princess discards as she slowly champions the toothless grin indicative of becoming a big kid. Yes, bronzed baby shoes are officially a thing of the past – gilded baby tooth jewelry is the new bling. Besides, you can’t wear a pair of bronzed tiny TOMS shoes as earrings!

Kovel’s ‘Le Knockout’ collection (which includes gold, silver, engraved or gem adorned teeth) is certainly not for every parent. The charms, especially when worn in multiples, have an odd aesthetic that is part Pirates of the Caribbean, part misshapen rapper — but they also eschew that witty fashion sense hip parents wear so effortlessly. And not only does Kovel create a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry using a mold of your child’s tooth, she does so using Fair Trade gem stones, recycled gold (“where possible”), post consumer packaging and eco-friendly casting materials. The only question left to ask is: What does the tooth fairy think of all this?

how is this really eco? because they wrap it up in a brown box? ugly and disgusting.
Hi “e”,
This jewelry may not be your personal cup of tea, but there are certainly plenty of people who think this modern design is ‘charming.’ We also applaud the artist’s use of Fair Trade gemstones and recycled gold… along with her creativity — all reasons we featured this jewelry, which thinks outside the ‘brown box.’
This is a very nice things i like it
I get the idea but can’t help think it is a little creepy.
