GREEN HALLOWEEN CONTEST >
We’re looking for the cleverest, most creative green ideas for Halloween, from crafty home-made eco costumes, to decor, to your organic homemade pumpkin bread. We’ll be giving out a slew of great prizes from eco baby brands Oeuf and Nubius Organics to the most creative Green Halloween ideas, so sign up for Inhabitots and enter our contest today! > HOW TO ENTER
Entering this competition is easy. Simply signup with Inhabitots (if you aren’t already a registered email reader), and then comment at the bottom of this post with your brilliant green Halloween idea. Then if you can, please send us a photo of your creative costume or treat idea. SUBMIT A PHOTO
We are judging this competition on CREATIVITY of submission, so sending photos in to us will SIGNIFICANTLY increase your chances of winning. The best ideas will be showcased in our Flickr gallery on our site. Put ‘Inhabitots Green Halloween’ as the subject of the email, make sure you include your name (and the email address you have registered at Inhabitots), and please keep your images reasonable in size (less than 300K please). This Halloween my 3 1/2 year old daughter Maya wished to be Tinkerbell.
Instead of running to the Disney store to purchase one, I decided to make
one instead. Although I handmake many things, this was my first handmade costume. The best tool that I have is my hands. I did not use a sewing machine, which means no extra electricity used.
Instead I handsewed the dress as well as the accessories such as her wings
and shoes. I did not use any glue or adhesive, other than for her wand which was wrapped in green paper tape.
The total amount spent was $4.50 for one yard of iredescent fabric for her wings. Other than that, everything was found items from our home.
Heavy gauge wire for the wings found in the garage, old blouse and leftover fabric for her dress, Maya’s 1 year old brother Jaxon’s old pants, found rope for the pom pom for her shoes, Maya’s paintbrush for her wand, leftover rug pad for the wings, and good oldfashioned Sharpie in gold for her shoes.
I had great fun!
