#5: Room to Play
When it comes to designing a bedroom that my son will truly enjoy, my focus has also been on space. A bedroom should have a large open space to play on the floor. I picked a rug that fit in between my son's bed and bookcase that is large enough for playtime. And since everything in his bedroom has a place, there is always room to play. One issue that we did find when we moved into our current home is that his bedroom was not large enough for his desk, bookcase, bed and chair - so we improvised and created an office in a nook in the hallway outside of his bedroom. This way he has a space to be creative in, leaving room in his bedroom to play and live.
Where did you get his bed? I’ve been looking everywhere for one like this…
Hi kdavi,
It use to be a bunk bed with desk underneath that we purchased years ago at IKEA. We cut the desk and bed apart to make a bed that is large and close to the ground, and repurposed the desk portion to make a creative space for my son. You can see the process here: http://www.mysweetgreens.com/2011/10/ikea-hack-turn-loft-bed-into-regular.html
Warmly,
