Searching for and collecting Easter eggs for a basket is a time-honored rite: discovering an egg in a hidden place is like finding a treasure for most kids. It's a simple enough craft that even those of us who can barely manage to sew on a button can handle it. It's also a great craft for older kids who are beginning to learn how to sew. And since these eggs are made from recycled eco-felt instead of plastic, they're green as can be and reusable. 1. Gather your materials.
- eco-felt in a variety of colors (available at crafts stores like Michael’s and online)
- embroidery needle
- embroidery thread
- eco-friendly fiber fill (optional, but highly recommended; also available at crafts stores and online)
- beads, buttons, or other decorations
- egg templates (find these online or create your own, in one or two sizes)
2. Cut out your eggs.
Using an egg template, cut out two eggs.
3. Design your eggs.
At this point, decide how you want to decorate your egg. You can sew on buttons or beads (please do not use these or any other small objects if you have very small children who could choke on them), sew a zigzag pattern, or sew on another layer of felt in a contrasting color.
