HOW TO: Make a DIY Milk Carton Bird Feeder

Supplies

  • milk carton
  • used aluminum foil
  • scissors
  • box cutter/razor
  • paint
  • paint brush
  • popsicle stick
  • glue gun
  • buttons
  • bubble wrap for dot print (optional)

Step 1: Paint the Milk Carton

Use a non-toxic paint to paint the milk carton. Make sure it will not wash off in case it gets wet!

Step 2: Build Roof

Shape the aluminum foil to the top of the milk carton. You will not need glue. Fold the foil under on both of the sides. Then on the front and back, fold the ends under keeping the roof at a slant.

Step 3: Insert Perch in Carton

Cut an incision in the middle of the carton, about 3-4 inches from the bottom. Then insert the popsicle stick. Poke the stick all the way to the end of the carton so you can see its impression on the other side. Then make another incision there so the stick can go all the way through. You want the perch to not move if there is weight on it.

Step 4: Cut Hole

Use a pencil to draw your hole in the shape of an arch. Then follow with a razor to cut out the hole. You can use a nail file to smooth the edges.
