As the mother of a 5 month old, I recently found myself doing in-depth research to try to find a cute, classy and eco-friendly play gymboree to give my little one a safe and stimulating space in which to play. Scared off by all the insane-colored, battery-operated, plastic-fantastic Fisher Price options available at chain stores, I felt on a quixotic quest to find the elusive gymboree that would both please my demanding baby and also please his design-conscious parents. I wanted to find something that was environmentally friendly and would fit in with my modern (minimalist) sensibilities. Surely my baby, with his superb taste, wouldn’t want something with flashing lights, polka dots and every color in the rainbow, right? I thought I would never find the right thing until I found the Haba Dream Meadow.
The Haba Dream Meadow is a cute-as-a-button 3-in-1 play product that does triple duty as a baby-gym, play mat, bed, and changing table. You can set up a hanging bar for toys when your baby wants to play on his back and practice grasping and swiping, and easily remove the bar when baby wants to turn over and practice tummy time. The ‘meadow’ is fun and interactive, where things rustle, squeak and move about to stimulate baby’s sensory awareness. Okay, I’m not going to say that this thing is ‘minimalist’ by any stretch of the imagination (it still has almost every color in the rainbow), but it is still decidedly classier and calmer than most baby gyms out there. Not only is the Dream Meadow cuter and simpler than most competing baby gyms, but the convertible quality of this play gym makes it the most useful contraption I could possibly imagine.
And my little tot seems to agree. From the moment I set him down in the Dream Meadow he was fascinated. At first we primarily used the Dream Meadow for playing with hanging toys, but as my baby has gotton bigger, we are folding it and unfolding it daily for all sorts of activities. The multiple use value of the Dream Meadow makes it dreamy for parents as well as kids.
