Groovy Green Crafts Books Offer New Recycled Project Ideas for Kids

by , 05/15/12

Girly girls will go crazy for The Crafty Princess and Fairy Crafts. Kids ages 6 and up can make over 90 princess-y projects from crowns to castles, and even learn how to have a princess party. The kit comes with glitter, ribbons, feathers, gems and chenille stems to use along with repurposed househole finds. Or set your kids up to create wings from wire hangers, wands from branches and more. The fairy kit is packed with projects using everyday nature items and recyclables and comes with glitter, ribbon, jingle bells, felt and chenille stems.

The newest title in the Green & Groovy Crafts series is Boy Made. The book includes 60 projects that use material from around the house and yard to create rubberband balls, bird houses, light sabers, terrariums and more. For ages 6 and up, this kit also comes with duct tape, fishing line, googly eyes, faux fur, rubber bands and craft sticks.

If you’ve got older crafters, or are able to help younger kids complete the projects, try the two other titles. For ages 8 and older: The Lonely Sock Club offers hundreds of ideas for turning those single sock stragglers into crazy critters, home decor, stylish accessories and more. The project book comes with pom poms, googly eyes, yarn and felt. For ages 12 and older: Garbage Flowers written by industrial artist Eric Lewis, offers 48 pages of ideas for turning plastic bottles and other materials into flowers, containers and other floral displays. The kit comes with everything you need to make at least 36 flowers including pre-cut wire stems, stickers sheets and needle-nosed pliers.

Willing to wait until this summer? Things That Go!, a 64-page book with more than 70 projects inside will help your child create planes, spacecraft, boats and other vehicles using recycling bin finds. The kit, geared toward kids ages 6 and up, also comes with wooden wheels, dowels, duct tape and chenille stems. Or if creating cute creatures, funky jewelry and quirky decor is more your kid’s style, set them to work repurposing bottle caps and jar lids with CAP-tivating Crafts. The kit, also geared toward kids ages 6 and up, comes with glitter, ring backs and jewels.
