Cleopatra Halloween Costume Made From A Pillow Case & A Paper Bag! by Lena Sekine
Maya is dressed as Cleopatra, and this is her fifth year entering the Inhabitots Green Halloween contest, which has become a family tradition. (Check out her adorable Statue of Liberty Costume in 2010, and Mermaid Costume in 2011) Our goal is not to purchase any materials to create the costume. I feel that the limitations of the contest bring out our creativity! For this costume we used a pillow case, paper shopping bag, vinyl adhesives, cardboard, recycled belt, and velcro.
HOW TO MAKE THIS COSTUME
Dress – White pillow case. Cut and sewed a simple tank dress. Hem is gold vinyl adhesive details.
Collar – Gold shopping bag cut to shape, then sewed onto dress. Collar detail by the neck is the rope from the shopping bag handle.
Jewels and Gold details are vinyl adhesives.
Head – head accessory made with recycled gold braided belt with cardboard cobra. Cobra details made with vinyl adhesives cut to shape. Middle diamond shaped centerpiece is created with scrap leather, with hand painted detail.
Bangs – Used black reusable bag piece and cut fringes to create bangs. Attached to head accessory.
Arm bands – Cardstock covered in vinyl adhesives. Adjustable velcro closure.
