We all know that making gingerbread houses is a fun holiday tradition that can stimulate your child’s creativity, but did you know you could unlock a budding green architect in your little one with a modern green gingerbread house? Inhabitat’s favorite green prefab architect, Michelle Kauffmann, has served up a delightful recipe for a gingerbread version of her latest eco prefab home design, the mkSolaire. And true to form, the aptly named gingerSolaire comes with a set of instructions for you to bake your own. What better way to promote the wonders of green home design than with your own ginger eco house?

The mkSolaire, currently being shown at the Smart Home exhibit at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry, is one of the coolest green prefab residences that we know off. So the idea that we can bake our own is just too good to pass up. Sure, it isn’t a full-sized house with all the sustainable fixings, but who are we to argue against such delectably delicious green design?

I love that there is chocolate to represent the solar panels! What a great idea! While making a gingerbread house could be fun, just making the gingerbread walls sounds good too. :) Yum–and her recipe recommends organic and cage free ingredients, too. Good thinking.

  2. Here is another Gingerbread House that was given to me over a year ago and was presented on my website. Hmm, do you think that the idea was borrowed? I would say the one I received looks a little more architectural.
