earth hour 2009, earth hour, prevent climate change, the big turnoff

This Saturday, March 28th, Earth Hour begins at 8:30pm local time. This worldwide event will allow every citizen on the planet to vote against climate change with the flip of a light switch. 2,712 cities, towns and municipalities in 83 countries will be participating in this year’s Earth Hour… and the list keeps growing. Hundreds of major landmarks will be going dark to honor this event, from the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Acropolis of Athens to the Empire State Building in New York City and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco… what a sweeping statement darkness will make.

Turning off your lights to commemorate Earth Hour is a simple yet profound way to show your children how to take action in preserving our planet. We hope that this event sparks a chain reaction in the millions of participants who have signed on for Earth Hour, so we may change the world on a daily basis, long after the sixty minutes are up.
