Walt Disney Company Issues Refunds for Baby Einstein Videos

As parents, we’re used to being alerted to all kinds of product recalls. These usually stem from new discoveries about the use of unsafe chemicals in paint, potentially toxic source materials or the risk of bodily harm. But Disney’s recall of their line of famous (or infamous) Baby Einstein videos is something altogether different. The recall (or refund) statement issued by Disney and reported last Thursday in The New York Times basically says, We’re sorry, but plopping your toddler in front of a TV running our video will not make him smarter… here’s your money back. This confirms the theory green parents have been championing all along: Television (whether connected to an ‘educational’ video game, ‘exercise learner’ or a DVD player looping Baby Einstein videos) can never trump one-on-one parent/child interaction.
