Perched above the ground, treehouse visitors are given an elevated perspective of the world we inhabit everyday. The ‘Landscape Apertura’ treehouse, located in Powell Gardens near Kansas City, MO, was designed by Robert McLaughlin, to be a whimsical, yet purposeful structure, with an aim to direct one’s attention to the beautiful outdoors through framed views of nature, gazed upon via six strategically located, bold green window frames.

With their cute and cozy Hug-Me Sweater and Squeeze-Me Mittens, New York eco children’s outfitter Oeuf encourages cuddling during the cold winter season. While the Hug-Me Sweater features two mittens sewn like pockets into the front to keep little ones’ hands warm, the Squeeze-Me Mittens encourage hand-holding by offering an adult-sized mitten with a a tiny little mitten sewn into the palm for your child’s hand to slip in. Both are made of 100% alpaca wool, a renewable fiber that is strong, lightweight, and hypo-allergenic, and both of these adorable items are now available through the Inhabitat Shop.

 

‘Tis the season for gum drops and frosting, which is why we are happy to announce the Bake For A Change Gingerbread House Competition. Challenging participants to concoct the eco-friendliest house with all the sustainable fixins’, organizers Terry* Project hopes to engage both design professionals and onlookers in a discussion about environmental issues that surround residential homes. To enter the contest, Terry* simply asks you to bake and construct a gingerbread house with “green” mindedness. Entrants will be judged both on its sustainability factor as well as its construction and appeal. The deadline for all entries is December 31, 2008. More details after the jump.
