This might be weird, especially since I’m 30 now. But I have strong memories as a child of my mother leaving notes in my school lunch. Only her notes didn’t make me feel happy, they made me feel sad b/c I missed her. She would sometimes give me gingerbread men cookies as a treat, and I wouldn’t eat them b/c it was somehow a special gesture from my mother. I have tried cutting my son’s sandwiches with cookie cutters (that he picked out) but he won’t eat them. So one day I put a regular triangle cut piece and a cookie cutter piece. He ate the triangle, but left the shape. I think the same phenomena might be occurring with him that he doesn’t want to eat something so “cute” and “special”. I suppose the moral of this story is to communicate with your kid. What works for some might not be the best idea for others.
