As an adoptee, I advise that anyone considering adoption remember that this child has parents, most especially a mother who carried it for nine months and is probably being forced by circumstances to give their child away. The love between this first mother and her child is a bond that is never broken. Please do what ever you can to keep a connection. And remember that even though you are raising the child it is not entirely yours.
“Not flesh of my flesh, nor bone of my bone; but still, miraculously, my own.” I believe the love and bond between a mother and child, regardless of blood relation, can also be amazingly strong and unbreakable. Every child is different, every story is different, every relationship is different… which is truly something important to remember as one considers adoption, and if it is right for his or her family.
