Thanksgiving is almost here, so now is the perfect time to gather the children to make crafts for the Thanksgiving table. These crafts can keep your kids busy while you're busy baking and you can be they'll get excited when guests arrive on the big day to a table decorated in crafts they made by themselves. Read on for simple, fun crafts that you and your kids can make in an afternoon using items you can find in your recycling bin or on a nature walk.
Pine Cone Turkey Place Cards
What you will need:
- pine cones
- leaves
- natural elements such as berries or feathers
Step 1: Rinse all of the natural elements in water.
Step 2: Have your child cut a circle shape from a leaf for the turkey’s head. Then glue on leaves or found feathers for tail feathers and a wattle and berries as eyes.
Apple Print Napkins
What you will need:
- apple
- pigment paints
- paintbrush
Step 1: Cut an apple in half.
Step 2: Add a thick layer of pigment paint to the apple.
Step 3: Firmly press the apple down on a napkin.
Step 4: Remove and hand paint any details such as the apple stem.
Miniature Nature Vases
What you will need:
- natural elements such as found branches
- miniature glass bottles
- twine
Add found branches to small glass bottles filled with water, I found ours in the recycling bin – they used to hold syrup.
