by , 05/17/11

Architect Barbie, architecture, Mattel, Barbie I Can Be, Barbie, architect

If Barbie can do it, then certainly any little girl out there can become an architect. Or so says Mattel as part of its Barbie I Can Be… line of high-heeled, blonde bombshell dolls. Architect Barbie, the 2011 career of the year, is due out this summer complete with architecture inspired clothing, a hard hat, glasses and a document tube. While there has certainly been some backlash as to her accessories from editors and young architects, Mattel’s goal is to allow little girls to role play and try on different careers with the hopes of inspiring future architects.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Maclaren USA, issued a recall on Maclaren strollers back in 2009, due to some major injury reports. Now some additional fingertip amputations and lacerations (yikes) have prompted a reissue of this important recall of one million strollers. At the time of the original recall, there were 12 reports of fingertip amputations caused by these strollers. Now Maclaren has received a total of 149 reported incidents with the strollers, including 37 reported injuries that occurred after the stroller was recalled in November 2009. These reported injuries include five additional fingertip amputations, 16 additional lacerations and 16 additional fingertip entrapments/bruisings. VIDEO: The Lady Cheese Shop Serves Human Breastmilk Cheese in NYC

Artist Miriam Simun surprised and intrigued New Yorkers recently as she offered up a tasting of human breastmilk cheese at The Lady Cheese Shop in NYC’s East Village. Inhabitots was on the scene and we were surprised to see a packed house of New Yorkers who came out to try the breast-milk cheese, which Miriam produced as an art experiment to get people thinking about the ‘naturalness’ of human milk and where their food comes from.

Simun said ‘If you’re really going to try to eat organic, natural and local, there is nothing more local or natural than human cheese. New York has 8 million people and not one cow, so the mammals in your midst are human’.
