Naysayers who propose that ‘green’ toys are too expensive have never come across the playful ‘Galimoto,’ which costs a mere $6. Made out of wire and cloth by children in Kenya, when the leggy rider pedals, the wheels on his bicycle turn. Homemade galimotos (motorcars) are a popular toy in Africa, where kids create entertainment out of any materials they can find — from cornstalks to twigs. We think they’re on quite a ‘roll’ with their resourcefulness and sustainable toy making skills.
