“Here comes the sun (tu-du-doo-doo), here comes the sun, and I say it’s all right…” as long as your kids are wearing proper sunblock protection. The ‘Fab Four’ had it right. The dawn of the summer season and all those rays of sunshine are cause for celebration. But before we get ‘sun drunk’ and run around without the right skin protection, let’s review a few chemical free, natural sunblock options for babies and children.

Sesa Seesaw – Build It Yourself Seesaw Fun

by , 06/07/09

sesa-seesaw

Tau Kids Furniture hails from Germany and their pieces are made to last for generations. The Sesa Seesaw is one such piece; a clever design that’s delivered as a single sheet of plywood. The single sheet holds all the parts you need to put together this lovely seesaw. Parts are easily removed from the plate, pieced together like a puzzle, and held together securely with a few screws. Once your child outgrows the seesaw, the pieces can be fit back together and the whole piece stores flat to save on space until it’s re-pieced back together for future generations.

Pukies ‘Stain-Friendly’ Clothing and Accessories

by , 06/06/09

Pukies, burp cloths, bibs, baby clothing, toddler clothing, organic cotton clothing, soy clothing, feeding, meals

Let’s face it, babies and toddlers are a sloppy, unruly bunch, especially at mealtime, as any parent who’s had to pick strained peas out of her hair can tell you. Samantha Asay, a mother whose children always seemed to have more food on them than in them, hit upon a genius idea that was too good not to share: Why not create a range of clothing and accessories that comes in meal-matching colors and patterns to camouflage food stains? And so Pukies was born. Made from a blend of soy and organic cotton, Pukies’ bibs, burp cloths, bodysuits, and blankets embrace the moments when the spoon doesn’t quite reach the mouth. Hey, if you can’t beat ‘em, you can at least hide the evidence.

‘Stack-Chick’ – Colorful, Stacking, Nesting Toy by Sharon Myoung

‘Stack-Chick’ – Colorful, Stacking, Nesting Toy by Sharon Myoung

As cute, chirpy and succinct as its name, the ‘Stack-Chick,’ a prototype designed by Sharon Myoung, a recent graduate of the Pratt Institute, is a stacking toy with a hidden surprise. Four donut shapes stack in a color coordinated fashion to create a squinty, little chick. As each ring is removed, a nestled egg inside the donuts is revealed. The egg is meant to encourage childrens’ curiosity about the process of nature, while teaching them which animals lay eggs. Once this darling toy finds a manufacturer, we’d suggest making it out of non-toxic EVA foam.
